- Book Synopsis
-
Eight months after Maggie Bothwell dies, her widower Anthony switches on his computer and finds that an email has just arrived—from her. It is intimate enough to be really her and urgent enough to alarm him: she warns him that something 'awful' might happen but refuses to say what.
Anthony finds himself torn between scepticism and belief. Is he being haunted, hoaxed or is he hallucinating?
The emails from [email protected] keep coming. Anthony suspects everyone: his son and daughter-in-law, his wife's sister Fran—and especially Simone, the young cleaner Maggie hired, who has ingratiated herself into his home.
As his scepticism about the afterlife gradually cracks, he replies to the emails, and their messages become tender, funny and raw. Until a buried secret detonates.
His grief is now compounded with anger. Reeling from betrayal, he uses the emails to demand the truth.
When he meets Brooke, a widow, at a bereavement session he glimpses a future beyond grief. But can he free himself from the past?
