Manchán Magan (1970 - 2025) was an Irish author, broadcaster, traveller and documentary-maker. His media career began with Manchán ar Seachrán, a collaboration with his director brother, Ruán, in 1996. His adventures in the Himalayas, which formed the basis of the series, inspired his first book (also called Manchán ar Seachrán), written in the Irish language and published in 1998.
Manchán is best known for his advocacy for Irish culture and the Irish language. He was fascinated by the parallels he found between Irish and other cultures, as explored in his books Brehons and Brahmans and Ireland in Iceland. Over the course of his career, he made over 17 documentaries and documentary series and published 18 books. His best known work today is probably Thirty-Two Words for Field, first published in 2020.
