- Aled Owen was born and raised near Bethesda, and for many years lived in a remote former quarry village in Snowdonia. He developed the Snowdonia Slate Trail with a view to enticing walkers into the quieter areas of Snowdonia and providing an economic boost to the area while bringing its unique slate heritage and landscape to a wider audience.
