Braving the Storm

As we creep closer towards the release of Rebecca Yarros’ ‘Onyx Storm’ the anticipation and anxiety only continue to rise.

‘Onyx Storm’ is the third instalment in Yarros’ jaw-dropping Empyrean Series, which took the world by storm with ‘Fourth Wing’ in 2023. We followed Violet Sorrengail as she joined Basgiath, the infamous War College, where students are more likely to die than they are to graduate. Violet bonded with two powerful dragons and fought to earn her place among the other talented riders. She learned of myths made real, and secrets the leadership are willing to kill to keep quiet.

The journey continued in ‘Iron Flame’, where Violet and Xaden were forced to keep secrets from each other, deal with the deaths of their friends and classmates, and try to prevent a war. A lot of stress for the young couple. Iron Flame really put us all through the ringer, with many emotional moments, twists and turns, old flames are reintroduced, lots of new information comes to the fore, new students arrive at Basgiath and there are many shocking new plot developments.

So, with ‘Onyx Storm’ releasing on January 21st, how could anyone be expected to focus on work? With the reveal of what happens to Xaden at the end of Iron Flame, we all need answers and a safe space to sort through our emotions.
