- This study examines the relationship between the Islamic State of Iran and women during 1979-1989. It was during this period that various principles and organs of Islamic State in Iran were institutionalised under the supervision of late Imam Khomeini, the founder of Islamic Republic of Iran. It explores how the gender issue had been framed, approached and discussed in the context ofstate-building in the post-revolutionary Iran. It examines the impact of state policies on women and their response to these policies.

- Dr Jyotika Teckchandani is presently an Assistant Professor at Amity Institute of Social Sciences, Amity University, Noida. Shedid her B.A. (Hons.) in Political Science from Sri Venkateswara College and M.A. in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College, both affiliated to University of Delhi. She received her M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees fromthe Centre of West Asian Studies, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.She is the author of the book Islam and Gender Politics in Iran. Dr. Jyotika has contributed a number of articles in academic journals of repute including Indian Journal of Secularism and Journal of West Asian Studies. Her research interests includegender studies, West Asian politics, and political theory and thought.
