- Book Synopsis
- From the dark-sky sanctuary of a wildlife reserve, Anthony Fairall turns his binoculars skyward to explore the southern skies, offering visitors to game reserves and national parks (in fact, any out-of-town location) the opportunity to make sense of the myriad stars and to recognise some of the patterns they form. In this new edition, fully updated by Anthony's daughter, Elizabeth Fairall, starwatchers are taken on a celestial game drive to observe the Big Five constellations of the night sky. Throughout, clear steps are provided to navigate the skies, track the planets, and even spot the moons of Jupiter and possibly the crescent of Venus. No prior knowledge of astronomy is needed to enjoy these introductory excursions into the night skies. Expertly illustrated with colour photographs, wildlife artwork, line drawings and twelve star maps, this book is a lively introduction to the joy of stargazing.
