- Book Synopsis
- A Massage Therapist's Guide to Pathology, the best-selling pathology book, continues to set the standard through up-to-date, evidence-based content, an outstanding full color illustration program, and a friendly, accessible writing style. With skill and passion, respected author and lifelong educator Ruth Werner makes pathology fascinating and understandable for massage therapy students and prepares them to make professional choices that result in the best possible outcomes for clients living with a wide range of diseases and conditions. To ensure competent, safe practice, the Sixth Edition now emphasizes evidence-informed practice and offers a stronger focus on helping students develop the clinical reasoning and critical thinking skills they will need for complex decision- making. Well-established educational building blocks take learners from key word vocabulary through to more complex skills, and a wide range of enhanced in-text and online learning aids help ensure content mastery. Incorporating the latest research and information on more than 20 newly covered pathologies, the Sixth Edition is now ELAP-compliant, has testing formats that better prepare students for the MBLEx exam, and has been updated to be consistent with the DSM-V.
- About The Author
- Ruth Werner is a retired massage therapist and lifelong educator. She began tutoring other students while she was still in massage school, and discovered a deep satisfaction in learning and teaching about the wonders of the human body. An early experience with a potential client convinced her that massage therapists were not getting enough information about working with people with complicated health situations, and she became passionately interested in exploring the role of massage therapy in this context. In addition to keeping this groundbreaking text upto date, Ruth travels the world as a continuing education provider, and she is a columnist for Massage and Bodywork magazine and Massage New Zealand Magazine. She is also frequently contributes to other trade journals. Ruth has served on committees for the American Massage Therapy Association, the National Committee for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork, the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards, the Alliance for Massage Therapy Education, and the Fascia Research Society. It was her special privilege to serve as President, Trustee, and ongoing volunteer for the Massage Therapy Foundation. Ruth was honored to receive the 2005 Jerome Perlinski American Massage Therapy Association Council of Schools Teacher of the Year Award, the inaugural National Certi?cation Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork Chair Award in 2013, and the 2018 John Balletto Distinguished Service Award from the Massage Therapy Foundation. Ruth lives on the Oregon Coast, within sight and sound of the Paci?c Ocean. When she is not writing or teaching she paints silk, dyes fabric, makes quilts, works in the garden, and walks her dog on the beach.
