Eason Spelling Bee 2024 Week 2

Week Two of the 2024 Eason Spelling Bee saw our Spelling Bee Team travel to Laois, Carlow and Kilkenny to crown our next three lucky Spelling Bee County champions. Check out all the details of week two below and find out which of our fantastic spellers were crowned Spelling Bee County champions.

Laois

We started this week in Laois, on March 5th. Our team was welcomed by Scoil an Fhraoich Mhóir in Portlaoise, where 11 students were eager to test their mettle against their competitors to see who would be crowned Laois County Champion. That title went to Evelyn Delany.
Evelyn is a huge reader and loves to read books.
Evelyn will now move on, and represent Laois in the Leinster final later this year.

Carlow

Then, the Spelling Bee Team made their way to Scoil Phádraig Naofa in Tullow, for the Carlow County Final. Nine eager students took part in the competition. But only one can be named champion, the honour went to Sebastian Crimmins of Holy Family Boys National School.
Sebastian will be moving forward to the Provincial and will make Carlow proud in the Leinster Final in May.

Kilkenny

Our team’s last stop this week was Kilkenny, where they were welcome by the students and teachers of Gowran National School. Seventeen students were competing here, they all gave it their all. We have been so impressed by the level of talent on display in every county so far!
Tara Holohan of Scoil Mholainge Listerlin came out on top, however, at the end of the day
Tara will be moving on to the Provincial Final in May, representing her county.

The Laois, Carlow and Kilkenny finals were fantastic. Each of spellers brought their A-Game and did an amazing job. The spelling bee is a fantastic opportunity for young students to showcase their spelling skills and compete against their peers. The winners of each competition demonstrated exceptional spelling abilities and should be proud of their achievements. We wish them all the best of luck as they continue to the province finals later this May.
