Book Synopsis

Situation Management for Process Control: Situation Awareness and Decision-Making for Operators in Industrial Control Rooms and Operation Centers Operators must be able to monitor what is in their charge, to understand the information presented, and to plan and actualize needed changes. To do this successfully, they must have the necessary tools to manage situations. This book provides a broad and comprehensive approach to developing a working solution to the situation management problem, including a comprehensive way of looking at control room management and understanding the field of control room operations. It discusses the technology and tools, as well as effective methodologies for safer and more productive control room operations, which lead to improved industrial production. Two key discussions are how human nature (of operators) affects the ability to perform, and how to use the concept and technology of weak signals to supplement the alarm system for situation awareness. The purpose of this book is to place a wealth of best practice information in the hands of the industrial and enterprise community. It contains a wealth of examples, alternatives, and suggestions. All control schemes, design suggestions, displays, diagrams, tables, figures, trend charts, lists, and the like refer to materials that have been designed to amplify and explain concepts and practices. Whether you are a seasoned professional or new in any of the areas below, this book will help you understand the need for and develop a plan for effective situation management:/p Enterprise management Operations management DCS application engineers including configuration and HMI Control room engineers and operators Safety and environmental engineers Control room designers and human factors engineers
