Book Synopsis

Four plays by the great French Romantic poet Alfred de Musset (1810-57) in accomplished modern translations by American theatre practitioners. Included in this volume: the historical panorama Lorenzaccio (trans. Paul Schmidt); the compact and charming You Can't Think of Everything (trans. Michael Feingold); the clown-as-Hamlet buffoonery of Fantasio (trans. Richard Howard) and the romantic comedy turned dark parable, Don't Trifle with Love (trans. Nagle Jackson). De Musset created an astonishing range of voices and dramatic forms for his explorations of human relations, perfectly reflected by the translations gathered here. Introduction by Amlin Gray.
