Follow-up of vaccinated aged individuals with herpes zoster vaccine has revealed a decreased incidence of Alzheimer's disease. Since there is cross-immunity between herpes zoster virus and herpes simplex virus, it is expected that Alzheimer's disease would be drastically reduced if vaccination against herpes zoster were started from 50 years old onwards.
