- Book Synopsis
- Author David Ross has previously produced similarly sized histories for Scotland's five pre-grouping railway companies. In 1923 Britain's railway companies were amalgamated in an event called 'The Grouping' into four companies. In Scotland the two Scottish grouped companies were the LMS and the LNER. In 1947 the "Big Four" became British Railways. The book deals with Scottish railway history in the period to 2016 dealing with the Second World War, the infamous Beeching cuts of the 1960s, 1990s privatisation and how the railways have since developed. Besides a comprehensive history, the book is illustrated in full colour, and has various useful appendices.
