A Hero You Absolutely Should Not Trust
Louie Stowell gets Loki’s swagger, panic and talent for bad decisions exactly right, and Thor’s missing hammer gives the story a superbly comic hook. The diary format, sharp jokes and lively use of Norse mythology make this a very strong recommendation for fans of illustrated adventures.

'You must read these books' - Jamie Smart, bestselling author of Bunny Vs Monkey
'My name is Loki, and I am a God. Sort of. It's complicated.'
Loki the mighty trickster god has been banished by Odin for bad behaviour to live on Earth as an eleven-year-old boy.
Things he cannot do on Earth: reveal his awesome godly powers:
Things he MUST do on Earth if he wants to get back home: go to school, do good deeds, write a diary.
Oh - and also prove to everyone that he has NOT stolen Thor's favourite hammer!
Watch out for the chaos!
There's a whole world of Loki to read:
A Bad God's Guide to Being Good
A Bad God's Guide to Taking the Blame
A Bad God's Guide to Ruling the World
A Bad God's Guide to Making Enemies
A Bad God's Guide to Causing Chaos
Also in the series: A Bad God's Guide to Unruly Activities
Ideal for readers who:
- Are likely to enjoy a gloriously unreliable narrator with more swagger than sense
- Could be hooked by Thor’s missing hammer and Loki’s frantic attempts to dodge the blame
- Respond well to Norse mythology being dropped into recognisable school-day routines
- Want a funny, doodle-filled read that feels mischievous rather than polished
- About The Author
- Louie Stowell started her career writing carefully-researched books about space, ancient Egypt, politics and science but eventually lapsed into just making stuff up. She has written fiction for 8-12 (Nosy Crow and Walker Books US), but the number one bestselling Loki: A Bad God's Guide to Being Good series is Louie's first project as both author and illustrator, inspired by her research into Norse myths. Louie writes full time in London, where she lives with her wife Karen, her dog Buffy and a creepy puppet that is probably cursed.
