His books include Guide to the Flowers of Western China, Cyclamen, The Genus Meconopsis, The Illustrated Flora of Britain and Northern Europe, and Mediterranean Wild Flowers. He holds the Royal Horticultural Society's highest accolade, the Victoria Medal of Honour.
