Andrea Mara Introduces Her New Book - With a Free Chapter for You to Read!

This is Andrea Mara and my ninth book, Such A Nice Girl will be published on May 7th – it’s about best friends, Siobhán and Grace, whose adult daughters are also best friends. Or so they think . . . At a family wedding, the two girls disappear and it soon becomes clear that one of them intends to kill the other. Siobhán and Grace have to work together to find their daughters but they don’t know which girl is the victim and which girl is the killer.

The inspiration for the book comes from back when my kids were in creche and pre-school. Any time I was called over to hear there’d been ‘an incident’ – let’s face it, usually a biting incident – I couldn’t help hoping my child had not been the biter, even though that meant they’d been bitten. There’s something particularly awkward about being the parent of a child who’s done something wrong, and that’s what I wanted to explore in Such A Nice Girl.

I’m working on my next book at the moment, and what keeps me going at the end of every long day are my twin downtime loves – books and TV. I’ve just finished Rufi Thorpe’s book Margo’s Got Money Troubles, which I adored, and before that, The Wedding People by Alison Espach, also absolutely wonderful.

On TV, I loved The Day of the Jackal, based on the Frederick Forsyth books but with a twenty-first century glow-up and a whole host of glamorous locations. And right now I’m watching 56 Days on Prime, adapted from our very own Catherine Ryan Howard’s book. Bingeworthy brilliance, highly recommended.

I’m looking forward to handing in my 2027 book and getting out to bookshops to sign copies of Such A Nice Girl and meet readers and embrace the whirlwind that is publication time!
