Urban fantasy

Urban fantasy is a sub-genre of fantasy usually set in the real world - whether contemporary, futuristic or historical - in an urban or densely-populated environment, but with magical or fantastical elements such as mythical creatures, paranormal powers or sorcery and spell-casting. Urban fantasy can be considered a type of 'low fantasy' (in contrast to the 'high fantasy' that is epic and heroic fantasy). The Ninth House series by Leigh Bardugo, set among the secret societies of Yale University, is a good example of urban fantasy.
