Time for heroes

by Ted Brack | 20 June 2016
Category: General Sport
Synopsis
When Hibernian Football Club won the Scottish Cup for the second time in fifteen years in 1902, no-one gave serious thought to the possibility that more than a century might pass before the oldest trophy inworld football would once again be paraded through the streets of Leith. As the years went by, Hibs supporters were on the receiving end of taunts from rival fans and the media as the wait for a third taste of Scottish Cup glory stretched to a barely credible 114 years. The perceived wisdom was that Hibs were fated never to lift the 'Scottish' again. However on 21 May 2016 everything changed. In the 92nd minute of a pulsating cup final at Hampden, Hibs captain David Gray bulleted home the header which made history and enabled his team to lift the trophy which their supporters had coveted for decades by beating Glasgow Rangers 3-2. The following day 150,000 delirious followers of the Hibees flocked on to the streets of Edinburgh and congregated at Leith Links to cheer manager Alan Stubbs and his squad who had responded so magnificently to themessage on a banner in the Hibs end at Hampden. The message read 'Time for Heroes' and these players had made themselves Hibernian legends. Bestselling Hibs author Ted Brack had an inkling that season 2015-16 might be a special one and decided to keep a journal of all the events which made this campaign so tumultuous. Ted's account of a memorable year in Hibs long and illustrious history takes fans from the lows of agonising near misses in the League Cup Final and the race for promotion to ultimate glory at Hampden in May. TIME FOR HEROES is a must read for all those Hibees who, like Ted, will want to remember forever the day that Hibs silenced their doubters and brought the Holy Grail home to Leith.
