It’s the ninth week of our Eason Spelling Bee and our Spelling Bee Team are back on the road after the Easter holidays to meet all our amazing participants. Our Spelling Bee Team were looking forward to meeting all participants and hearing their stories from their Easter break. Our destinations for week nine were Monaghan, Armagh and Down. Check out all the details below and find out who was crowned our Spelling Bee County champions.
Our first destination of the week was Corracrin National School, Emyvale, Co. Monaghan. Our Spelling Bee Team were welcomed with open arms along with all participants. A total of 8 spellers took part on the day with spelling standards very high. The overall winner was Murtada Gamal from Monaghan Model School. Murtada is in 6th class and 12 years old. Murtada particularly loves to read books by David Walliams. Murtada will now go on to represent Monaghan in the Ulster Final on Thursday 23rd May.

Once again, Poyntzpass Primary School were our hosts and our team were warmly greeted by all. There was an excellent vibe throughout the day along with the wonderful and creative art work prepared by pupils and teachers. A total of 10 spellers participated in what was an extremely strong Spelling competition. David Burnett from Derryhale Primary School stood tall and was crowned our Armagh County Champion. David Loves reading and his favourite book is “How to train your dragon”. David will now move on to represent Armagh in the Ulster Final at the end of May.

Our last destination of the week was St. Colmcille’s Primary, Downpatrick. Just like every county we were warmly welcomed along with all the participants. A total of 22 spellers took part in what was an extremely competitive event. In the end, Charlie Denner from Carrick PS was crowned our Down County Champion after an impressive display of spelling. Charlie loves reading factual books and is currently reading “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings”. Charlie will now move on to represent Down in the Ulster Final on Thursday 23rd May.
