As we enter week six of our Eason Spelling Bee 2019, our Spelling Bee Team made their way to the west/south west of the country. Our team was in high spirts with Mayo, Galway, Clare & Limerick our destinations for the week. The team were really looking forward to seeing what was in store for them in these four competitions. Our first destination of the week was St. Pats, Castlebar, where our team and participants were warmly welcomed. With a total of 24 pupils taking part the standards were set high from the outset. Sintayehu Killeen from our host school was crowned our Mayo County Champion. Sintayehu loves reading and especially enjoyed the Darkmouth series by Shane Hegarty. Sintayehu will now represent Mayo in the Connacht Final on Tuesday 28th May.

Our second trip of the week brought our Spelling Bee Team to Gaelscoil Iarfhlatha, Tuam, Co. Galway. Our team were warmly greeted and made feel at home ahead of our Galway competition. Competition to be crowned Galway County Champion was very stiff with 43 pupils from all over Galway taking part. Caoimhe Whyte from Cooloo National School battled her way through to be crowned our Galway Spelling Bee Champion. Caoimhe is an avid reader and loves David Walliams, she is currently reading ‘The Ice Monster’. Caoimhe will now represent Galway in the Connacht Final on Tuesday 28th May.

Half way through the week and our Spelling Bee Team made their way down to County Clare. Our host school was Scoil Chroíst Rí, Inis, Co. Clare and they were more than accommodating. A total of 17 of young spellers were put through their paces and Seán Franks from our host school came out on top to be crowned our Clare County Champion. Seán is an avid reader and is currently loving non-fiction books on genetics. Seán will now go to represent Clare in the Munster Final on Thursday 6th June.

Our final Spelling Bee of the week and our Spelling Bee Team made their way down to County Limerick. JFK Memorial School were our hosts and our Spelling Bee Team and participants were warmly welcomed. The standard of the competition was set very high with some excellent spelling throughout the competition. A total of 23 spellers took part with Ailbhe McManus scooping the top prize and becoming our Limerick County Champion. Ailbhe loves reading the Harry Potter series. Ailbhe will now move on to the Munster Final on Thursday 6th June.
