Spelling Bee 2019 – Leitrim, Sligo & Roscommon
The Eason Spelling Bee 2019 began its journey around the 32 counties of Ireland at the beginning of February to find this year’s Eason Spelling Bee Champion. Our Spelling Bee Team made their way to Leitrim, Sligo and Roscommon to kick-start the County Finals of the Eason Spelling Bee competition. Check out all the details from our first week below and find out which of our super spellers were crowned Leitrim, Sligo and Roscommon Spelling Bee County champions.
Leitrim
The team returned to the Landmark Hotel in Carrick-on-Shannon to crown the Leitrim County Champion. 8 spellers from 5th and 6th class battled it out to become the Leitrim County Champion. Fionn O’Leary, a Percy Jackson fan, from Gortletteragh N.S, Mohill became our first County Champion of 2019. Fionn will now move on to compete in the Connaught Final in May.

Sligo
Rathcormac National School were kind enough to host the Sligo County Final in their school once again this year. A fantastic competition of 24 spellers went head to head to be crowned this years Sligo Champion. Trevor Horan from Highpark National School, Dromard came out on top. Trevor loves to read and is a big fan of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. Trevor will now go forward to the Connacht Final which will be held in May.

Roscommon
Our final County Spelling Bee competition of the first week on the road took place in Co. Roscommon. The competition was held in the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon town. 27 spellers and their supporters filled into Abbey Hotel on Thursday morning ready to represent their school in the County Final. Rian Kingi from Roxboro N.S, Derrane was our County Champion. Rian will now compete in the Connacht Final in May.
