Spelling Bee 2019 – Cavan, Fermanagh & Tyrone

It’s week eight of our Eason Spelling Bee and our Spelling Bee Team are back on the road to meet all our wonderful participants. Of course, participants were in high spirits as it was their last week before the Easter break. Our destinations for week eight were Cavan, Fermanagh and Tyrone. Check out all the details below and find out who was crowned Spelling Bee County champions.

 

Cavan

Our first destination of the week was Knocktemple National School, Virginia, Co. Cavan. Our Spelling Bee Team were welcomed with open arms along with all participants. A total of 17 spellers took part on the day with spelling standards very high. The overall winner was Joe Dugdale from Cavan No.1 School. Joe is an avid reader and particularly loves books by David Walliams. Joe will now go on to represent Cavan in the Ulster Final on Thursday 23rd May.

Fermanagh

Next up for our Spelling Bee Team was a visit to Holy Trinity Primary School, Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh. Like all schools, we were warmly welcomed by the host school. A total of 7 spellers participated in what was an extremely strong Spelling competition. Barry Hutchinson from Newtownbutler Primary School stood tall and was crowned our Fermanagh County Champion. Barry Loves reading factual books and has read the Harry Potter series four times. Barry will now go on to represent Fermanagh in the Ulster Final on Thursday 23rd May.

Tyrone

Our last destination before the Easter break was Sacred Heart Primary School, Co. Tyrone. Just like every county we were warmly welcomed along with all the participants. 13 spellers took part in what was a very competitive event. In the end, Senan Doyle from St. Ronan’s Recarson, Omagh was crowned our Tyrone County Champion after an impressive display of spelling. Senan will now move on to represent Tyrone in the Ulster Final on Thursday 23rd May.
