Spelling Bee 2019 – Antrim, Derry & Donegal

As we entered our final week of our Eason Spelling Bee County Finals, our Spelling Bee team travelled to the North of the country. Our Spelling Bee Team were in high spirits and were eagerly anticipating meeting all participants. Our destinations for week ten were Antrim, Derry and Donegal. Check out all the details below and find out who was crowned our Spelling Bee County champions.

 

Antrim

Our first destination of the week was Templepatrick Primary School, Templepatrick. Our Spelling Bee Team were welcomed with open arms along with all participants. A total of 16 spellers took part on the day with spelling standards set very high from the outset. The overall winner was Oisin Lynch from Holy Cross Boys Primary School, Belfast. Oisin is in Primary Seven and 12 years of age. Oisin is an avid reader and is currently reading the “Alex Rider” series. He will now go on to represent Antrim in the Ulster Final on Thursday 23rd May.

Derry

St. Canices Primary School, Feeny were our hosts and our team were warmly greeted by all. There was an excellent atmosphere throughout the day. A total of 11 spellers participated in what was an extremely strong Spelling competition. Finn Rush from St. Columba’s Primary School, Kilrea stood tall and was crowned our Derry County Champion. Finn Loves reading and he is currently reading the “Artemis Fowl” series. Finn will now move on to represent Derry in the Ulster Final at the end of May.

Donegal

Our last destination of the week was Drumkeen National School, Drumkeen. Just like every county we were warmly welcomed and greeted with open arms. A total of 24 spellers took part in what was an extremely competitive event. In the end, Caoimhe McBrearty from Saint Patrick’s National School, Lifford was crowned our Donegal County Champion after an impressive display of spelling. Caoimhe loves reading and has a keen interest in all “David Walliams” books. Caoimhe will now move on to represent Donegal in the Ulster Final on Thursday 23rd May.
